Everybody has a "Why." Maybe you want to lose 10 or 110 pounds. Maybe you want to make Regionals or even The Games. Maybe you just want to get really fit and have some fun along the way, or you just want to move and sweat a little bit in the process. My point is that everyone has reasons why they do what they do. CrossFit works so well for so many people because during the 60 minutes you are here you are present. In a day and age where everyone seems to be on their phone doing one thing or another, or we happen to be busy doing many things at once, at CrossFit, and if only for a little bit of your day you are in the present. You are thinking about how to get the barbell over your head with a coach giving some sort of cue like "Get your elbows up" or "Keep your chin back," or maybe you are just trying to get your toes to the bar just one damn time! It is in these moments that we get better not because we try "extra" hard but because we focus on what we are doing and we are present in that very moment.
Of course, not every day is like this, some days we don't want to move. We are sore, tired, overworked, etc. It is okay to feel this way (not that you need my validation to feel any certain way). Some days it's a victory just to show up. On these days we feel the full impact of our community. It doesn't necessarily mean someone yelling at you to go faster, it means letting those around you remind you of your "Why", because it is in these moments that everyone around you just wants to see you succeed at your level.
So do yourself a favor and remember we are all in this together, take a step back, a deep breath, and get your ass moving again, because we all want to see you accomplish your own unique "Why"!
