People rarely give themselves As. The reasons are loaded: I cheat too much, I eat out, I eat too many carbs, etc 🍿🍩🍻🍔. ••

Here’s the thing: I am a self-confessed “A” 🙋🏻♀️. It doesn’t come easy. It’s not something that I was born with (far from!) I’ve worked really hard to be an A. I eat balanced meals every 3-4 hours 🍲, I make an effort to drink water throughout the day 💧, I do some sort of movement every single day 🧘🏻♀️🤸🏽♂️🏋🏽♀️ I also eat out, eat sugar, and love carbs. I am still an A. ••

I could be an A+ but I couldn’t be one for long. In fact, those A+ days would lead to F days. ••

Consistency is always better than perfection. In fact, what is perfection? Perfection is an ideal we make up ourselves. It is unattainable because it does not exist. It even becomes a form of self-sabotage. (Ever eat something you consider “not healthy” and then feel like the day was ruined? To only continue to make bad choices that make you feel worse?). ••
••
Consistently make choices that support your health and fitness goals (or really any goal you have in life). Occasionally you’ll make choices that don’t directly support them. That’s okay! Your consistency makes them outliers. ••

There’s no doubt about it: nutrition is a weighted subjected. So many factors influence the choices we make about food. It can be overwhelming. •

The reality is: you gotta put the work in and do it right the first time. It’s just a part of being an adult: ya wanna save money? Then you have to put money aside 💰. Ya wanna have a better relationship with your spouse? Ya gotta put in the effort ❤️. Wanna do a muscle up? Ya gotta practice the skills that will get you one 🤸🏽♀️.

Meal Prep Sunday 🛒👩🏽🍳🔪🍎

This week features a little bit of everything. Woke up and made a batch of gf peanut butter chocolate breastfast cookies from @chocolatecoveredkatie (I’ve been following her for nearly a DECADE and she’s still my go to for sweet but healthy recipes). While that was in the oven, I got some hardboiled eggs started on the stove top.

For our lunches for the week: I almost always make some sort of chicken, carb, and veggie for my husband and I. We’ve been on a jasmine rice and Thai marinade kick—so that’s what it was today! •
Pro tip: Start whatever is going to the longest, first. I break down and pound the chicken down and set it aside to marinade first. Then start the rice. THEN worry about the veggies while everything else is busy cooking.

I sliced up some veggies to pickle as well. Pictured: red onion, spicy red pepper radishes, dill pickles, and bourbon jalepenos. Pickling is SO easy—plus it’s a cheap way to support your gut health. •••

63% of you said you log your food on a data base like @myfitnesspal or @my.macros on a poll in our IG stories yesterday.

You can close your eyes and hope for the best, make good choices, try and be in a deficit (or maintenance or surplus calories), try to hit your micronutrients, etc but if you’re not logging your food choices and quantities, you’re just going on feeling. It’s just like your savings account. You can try and save money but if you’re not checking your bank statements, making note of where you’re money is being spent, and putting money aside each month: you’re plan is no better than a simple finger cross 🤞🏻.

My #1 tip for food tracking is to log your food the night before. Yeah it’s a chore. Yeah you’d rather be lounged out on the couch watching Netflix. BUT sometimes ya just gotta adult and do things that are good for you. This is one of those things. •
You don’t have to log your whole day out. If you have food prepped, log that. If you know you’re craving something in particular, log that. Know your protein options in your fridge? Log 4-6oz for your main meals.

This way you’re not only putting it out to the universe that you care about what you put into your body & you have goals that you want to accomplish—you’re not closing your eyes and hoping for the best at the end of the day. •
I have been logging my food for YEARS and I still fall back on this method. It is all too easy to tell yourself you’ll log it after you eat. Let’s face it, it just doesn’t happen. Replace that promise with a habit and watch your consistency go ☝🏻.
